At 39 weeks I've shifted into a new gear. Things feel so bittersweet and precious now, not knowing how much time we have left as a family of just four. I am cherishing sweet snuggles and little conversations more than I usually do.
Over the course of this pregnancy both of my kiddos have weaned, so for the last few months I've felt a little more free and autonomous (ironic, considering that I've been hugely pregnant at the same time!) and I know that any day now I'm going to re-start that amazing breastfeeding relationship with a new person who will be totally dependent on me and my boobs for perhaps years to come. Its an exciting and overwhelming feeling, all at once.
We finished our Birth Mix this past weekend, and I love listening to it all the time. I don't even know if it will be used or useful during the birth (it will depend on how I feel in the moment) but meanwhile it's helping to set the vibe for welcoming a new baby into the world. I am sure it'll serve as the soundtrack to our new life for a while.
I wore this Butter By Nadia dress a few nights ago when Taro and I had the opportunity to go out on the town. I think it's the only thing that fits me now besides giant maternity leggings and t-shirts ;) The jacket is vintage Ann Klein, the shoes are Betsey Johnson, and my Whiting and Davis clutch belonged to my grandmother.
Will there be a 40 week post? Stay tuned to find out...

You look so gorgeous! Can't wait to see the baby!
ReplyDeleteOh, so exciting. I remember making Ivy's playlist and listened to it all the time. It was also so wonderful to listen to AFTER she was here.

This is so exciting! I have a feeling your sons will have a baby sister!
ReplyDeleteI had to wean my son when I was 7 months pregnant with his sister. Too many Braxton Hicks contractions! I missed our sweet nursing time, but he took it very well and didn't mind just snuggling me instead. BLessings to you all!
Darn you for making pregnancy look so amazing!!! As if I didn't have insane baby fever as it were ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, Leigh you look gorgeous! Best of luck darling with the run up to the big day. No doubt you'll do magnificently.

ReplyDeleteSavor every moment of these last days before the next marvelous kiddo presents her/himself. It's all too marvelous, too marvelous for words!!!
can you share anything about the weaning experience? you seem like the perfect person to offer guidance or perspective on the subject.... (and yeah--great dress!)
ReplyDeleteYou look so BEAUTIFUL, Leigh!!! I can't believe you're already at 39 weeks...so exciting!!! Hugs to you! :)
ReplyDeleteWow Leigh! You look incredible! Such a beautiful belly. so exciting...
ReplyDeleteYOur bump is magnificent! And I am impressed that you are managing to wear those heels with your centre of gravity in a different place!
ReplyDeleteI have only had one pregnancy (this is my 5th) when I wasn't breastfeeding someone.. and I know that feeling of autonomy. I think it's nice to have the space to think about the new baby too.. Maybe my daughter will wean sometime soon...
Enjoy the last week/weeks of this special time.
Linda (New Zealand)
Beautiful! We women rock! Can't wait for my second baby bump!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Leigh, that´s so exiting!! Best birth vibes coming your way from Chile, and as a good luck note, you where one of my inspirations to first start researching homebirth, and the birth of my boy, almost a year ago, was super smooth and fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! Really digging your blog. Best wishes for a wonderful birth! The right playlist definitely makes a difference!
ReplyDeleteHi Leigh, adding to the internationally flavoured birth vibes, I'm sending them from Australia. I've been very slack commenting, have been loving your blog for a good year or so. Since I started visiting I now - peel my garlic in a whole new way; own a beautiful red Mountain Mama maternity jacket; know what panko is and made those delicious burgers...(a blogger flaps her wings in NY and causes a hurricane in Australia? Something like that..) not to mention all the interesting child-raising concepts you put out there. You do look amazing, can't wait to see the new bub! (I'm newly pregnant with my second, so clucky...) Briohny :-)
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed - you look v. fancy!
ReplyDeleteYou're getting SO close! Can't wait to hear your big news when baby arrives. Do you know if you're having a boy or girl? I can't remember.
ReplyDeleteI'm a few weeks behind you, but I'm also down to just one or two outfits. I guess that's just the way it is when you reach the final weeks. ;)
