The Sakura Bloom Styleathon: Round 1 Assignment + Reader Giveaway

Now that you've met our amazing bloggers and our exciting sponsors, let's get down to business. I am am excited to announce our first assignment:

Elizabeth, Joanna, Danielle, Natalie, "Miss" James, Jen, Sharmadean, Melisa, and Aura have until 11:59 pm, June 20th to post their Round 1 entries on their respective blogs, before we move on to Round Two later that week.

Our goal is to encourage as much freedom of expression as possible in the blogger's entries, while providing them with items that fuel their imaginations. In that spirit, we have one simple guideline:
  • Each item received from the Styleathon sponsors must make at least one appearance in at least one round of the Styleathon.
The competition will culminate, in late July, with the announcement of a Grand Prize Winner, chosen by our panel of judges (you'll meet them soon).

Grand Prize Package
  • The iPad 2, in winner's choice of color
  • A collaboration with Lynne Banach, Owner of Sakura Bloom, designing a signature collection of slings (a portion of the proceeds from the line will go to the winning blogger's charity of choice)
  • Custom portrait of winner and baby in a Sakura Bloom sling, by Samantha Hahn
  • Custom Marla Cielo handbag designed exclusively for the Styleathon winner by Andrea Tobin.
  • $250 gift certificate to Lilla P and personalized shopping spree with the Owner and Creative Director of Lilla P, Pauline Nakios
  • A pair of frames from Selima Optique, chosen for the winner by Selima Salaun, herself

And now, for our first Styleathon Reader Giveaway!

I will randomly select one winner from the eligible entrants. The winner can then select their favorite sling from any of Sakura Bloom's linen collections, and will also receive a $250 Lilla P gift card!

Here's how to enter:

1. Leave a brief comment on this post telling us about a mother in your life whose style you admire.

2. Be sure to leave your email address (even if you think I know it already!)

The deadline to enter is 11:59 EST, Sunday, June 12.

Thanks, and Good Luck!

  4. I so very much admire my grandmother's style. Even now, after raising ten children and being well into her 80's, she always looks downright adorable. She still goes to the health club three times a week and always coordinates her outfits. Most importantly, she makes sure you know how much she loves you! I don't know how she does it!

She was the kind of mom who grew her own food, sewed her kids clothes (including wedding dresses), and cooked up a storm every Sunday for the whole family. But for someone I actually know, a lady at my church (whose kids are now grown). She knows her particular style and sticks with what looks good on her, she embraces her gray hair with a snazzy short cut... she looks confident and beautiful!

She always wears the things she finds beautiful even if her five daughters despive her choice -- her answer is, I like it. I think its lovely. So I will wear it.
And inevitably, one of us steals it from her wardrobe at some point.

She says that having three daughters softened her, made her more feminine, caused her to respect herself more, stand up straighter, carry herself gracefully. You can see that, no matter what she wears, she feels beautiful in her own skin. Style definitely isn't a focus of her busy life - but it comes naturally from a life well ordered. That's the glow I want as I grow up with my littles.

Look forward to reading the rest of the posts!

I figured boys must keep a woman on her toes, so that's what I always hoped for myself, ha! I do have a boy now, and he certainly does keep me going :). Thanks for the chance to win, Leigh!

  120. My close friend Isabelle is a new mother & I admire her style. She is French, so people might think, "oh sure, well.:) But I mean this in a broad sense. She has style, sure; but she works very hard to make other people look beautiful. She's a makeup artist.

While she works on celebrities, news people, & so forth here in the DC-area, she is always helping people who have little or no funds to look beautiful, too. She works with ill & recovering women on her "off-time) - she has a 6 month old & a 3 year old - by helping them with their regimes.

Isa also has always been there for me when I was applying for a job or when I had a date with someone new. She always makes me feel beautiful even when I don't look so very well.

(I should say also that many people think that someone like Isa has lots of money...not true. Every talented makeup artist is not featured in magazines.)

Isa is a super person, very kind, & effortlessly stylish w/out pretense.

Thanks for such a nice giveaway.

    Cheers.
