drowning doesn't look like drowning

I just read this incredibly enlightening article about how to recognize the signs of drowning. I was shocked to learn how subtle yet specific the signs are, and felt I had to share. Please take a few minutes to read this. Someone's life could depend on it.

  2. This is another example of how media sometimes distorts the reality of natural events. Yes, I thought someone who is drowning would be thrashing around. Wow, I'm glad to know better now. Thank you! What's the other humdinger of a distorted event: childbirth!
    Excellent post!

  4. Thank you for posting this. It's not quite the same thing, but I witnessed my then-18 month old fall face first into 1 foot of water. He was only 5 feet from me, so I reached him within a couple of seconds. The scariest thing was how he didn't make a peep, splash, nothing. I still re-live that moment, and it has made me hyper-vigilant about water.

  10. Thank you for posting this. I'm sending it to all my family members. My older brother almost drowned when I was a kid (I watched it happening) and it made me afraid of water for many many years until I decided to tackle the fear (and signed up for the Chicago Triathlon not knowing how to swim!)

  12. Oh my goodness this is so true! I remember walking along the water in a lake and seeing a little toddler acting just like this. I didn't think "drowning" but my instincts made me pick her up. Her mother had no idea ALWAYS watch your kids around water!
