I feel so proud of the courage and openness of the Our Time kids, who are so inspiring in their willingness to confront their fears and turn challenges into triumphs.
I am deeply moved by the response of friends, family, and readers to this piece.
Obviously, I am completely, madly, head-over-heels in love with my husband, who created this sanctuary of acceptance and love that is Our Time. He bravely and brilliantly turned his biggest obstacle into a path for healing for himself and countless others. I have no words to describe how much I admire him. I am such a lucky woman.
And I absolutely cannot believe that after three and a half years of avoiding blogging my children's names, they are rather dramatically outed on national TV. Too funny, but totally worth it. Thanks, Mo Rocca ;)

ReplyDeleteI'm sitting in a university cafeteria in North Ontario. I'm here going to school for Teacher's College. I can't thank your husband enough for what he is doing. As an educator, I teach and learn with students who have a wide range of disabilities- autism, asperger's, communication disorders, learning disabilities, defiance disorders- just to name a few. One of the most difficult aspects is trying to show students that they are not defined by their disorder/disability. They can grow up to have successful careers and ordinary lives. They may learn differently or need certain accommodations, but they are just like everyone else. They are accountable to the world to be good people. I don't know what else to say other than THANK YOU!

ReplyDeleteLeigh...thank you for sharing this...The work your husband is doing is so touching...our 3rd child soesn't stutter, but has some other speach issues and by loving and encouraging we are breaking through and helping him...I am so blessed to see the progress emotinal in him...I know that this is such a great thing your husband is doing!
