Sir Ken Robinson addressed the TED conference in 2006 on the topic of How School Kills Creativity (I posted about it here). Now he's back, with these two excellent videos that will really shake up the way you think about education. I urge you to watch if you care about children, learning, and truly improving our school system.
This is why I believe in Unschooling. It is the ultimate in organic education, suited to the genius of each individual child.
I'd love it if you'd leave a comment with your thoughts!

Dad spent the evening watching Sir Robinson's videos. Thanks for introducing him to us!
ReplyDeleteGood stuff!!! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDelete"Every day, our children spread their dreams under our feet, and we should tread softly."
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Sir Ken!! Thank you so much for posting his latest. Everyone needs to watch & listen.
Thank you, Leigh, for your steadfast commitment & passion to the lives of all children.
Great thoughts! Thanks for the videos!
ReplyDeleteSo much in this talk resonated with me, as a former classroom teacher. I wrote a little about it on my blog but watching this video helped me to understand why classroom teaching never felt right to me.
ReplyDeleteI feel strongly about our little man's future education. Especially because I didn't like going to school at all and had no enthusiasm for it, except for my one very cool art teacher who encouraged me to draw draw draw and who was a bit of a rebel anti-school-system teacher. On my end of year report cards was always... "Cassandra is easily distracted...Cassandra could do very well if she applied herself...Cassandra has so much potential but...BLAH"! Thanks for posting these links.
ReplyDeleteHey Leigh,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Is unschooling similiar to homeschooling? I think it's a great concept, but I have not heard very much about it. When you were raised did you ever feel like you wanted to go to public school, just to experience it? I also read that you went on to post-secondary, was it a big shock?
Thanks so much!
ali
Thank you for this; Sir Ken is amazing and hilarious and he's absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with Ali: would love to read/hear about your own tales as an unschooler.
How very interesting. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThis comes at a perfect time as we consider how to deal with school for our kid when he comes home in the spring. I always envisioned when I became a parent, I'd have many years to decide but now we're becoming overnight parents of a school age kid!
ReplyDeleteMy gut tells me (and this video confirms) that our child who is ESL and has a disability does not belong in a public school or traditional private school for that matter. We are considering Waldorf for next fall. I'm curious to know what you'll be doing for your little guys, Leigh!
