I Knew I Liked This Lady

Photo found here.

Have you seen the show Modern Family? Taro and I occasionally catch an episode on Hulu, and we are always impressed by the smart, fresh, true-to-life writing and the awesomely funny cast.

Well, my fandom of Julie Bowen (she plays mom Claire Dunphy on the show) was cemented as soon as I heard the news that she appeared on Lopez Tonight with George Lopez this week and spent the majority of the time talking about tandem-nursing her twin 1-year-olds! She even brought this photo, which was projected onto a huge screen behind her and George while they talked (George cracked that it must have been taken by Google Maps, LOL):

And here's a clip:

Inspired by Julie's tandem-breastfeeding awesomeness, I'm posting my very own Google Maps shot taken a few months ago of a nursing session at our house (OK, OK, I took it with my cell phone!)

  1. Hi everybody, I'm sorry, but I've been having trouble getting the comments to show up on this post! Hopefully I have the problem solved for all future comments, but FYI here are the past comments (copied&pasted from the automatic emails I get with each comment):

Joanna Goddard: "this is AWESOME!!! "

love: "oh, i KNEW i loved her, too! that is awesome.
i love your picture, too...what a sweet, sweet time with your babies.
i still do grieve slightly that clay wouldn't nurse when we adopted him at a year. i would've loved to nurse our twins, too. "

Drea: "LOL lil lipo machines, thats to funny!! Oh I wish I could of nursed :( makes me sad seeing photos like this but also happy seeing other moms able to do it. Its bittersweet."

Childhood Magic: "How funny, we just started watching Modern Family on Hulu (after the kids are sleeping) and it is surprisingly hilarious. We love it!
I had heard that an actress had shared a tandem nursing shot on George Lopez and was receiving a lot of criticism for it, but I had no idea it was her! How amazing she is, if only more actresses were like this! And of course, don't even get me started on how insane it is that people are so shocked and offended by breastfeeding. Get over it people and get your priorities straight! Which reminds me, have you seen the new movie out in the theater called "Babies"? It's a lovely movie/documentary that follows 4 babies around the world, comparing their different lifestyles. Anyway, people are freaking out about it because there is a lot of breastfeeding in the movie, and they want it to be rated R, purely for showing breasts feeding babies! ACK!
I love your nursing shot, it's gorgeous beyond words!!

Ladybug-Zen: "awww! thanks for posting this. it brings back such fond memories (or is that mammaries?:) of our tandem nursing days. sigh....i miss them."

  2. This is so awesome! I have an overhead photo of myself feeding edie just like this--we took it when we visited the "lactation coach" so I could get the latch right at home. Oy - those were stressful days before we learned to latch :)

  5. Leigh, a gorgeous photo! Isn't breastfeeding amazing? I was at mothers group today and they were talking about weaning at 12 months. And I was thinking – NO! NO! NOOOOOO! I'll be breastfeeding for as long as she needs it.

  6. Love it! I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised that they showed it and she was so open. Yes!!!! Although I've never taken a photo, I CAN say I've tandem nursed a 4 year old and a 20 month old. :)

  9. What timing! I'm so glad you posted this. I am tandem nursing my two-year old and newborn and was feeling a bit isolated this morning after a visit to friends. Glad for the reminder that we are not alone!! :)
