Breastfeeding in Vogue

Photobucket
I was delighted to see this photo of Rachel Feinstein in the May, 2010 issue of American Vogue. Shot by Annie Leibovitz, Feinstein is a sculptor, mother of three, and the wife of painter John Currin. She is also (famously) the muse of designer Marc Jacobs. I love that she is shown breastfeeding while the caption describes her as a "goddess". Fab!

  3. Fab and great that that's not a tiny baby, continuing to normalise breastfeeding into the toddler years

    Yay!

  7. Fabulous! I nurse a 3 year old and it's so nice to see breastfeeding depicted in a positive way. Go Vogue!

  12. Ummm, it doesn't show she is breast feeding... she is just sitting there with her child with her boob out.
I could do that with my child... hell, I could do that with my OWN mother!

  13. It's a beautiful photo, but she's not breastfeeding. Like the previous commenter said, she's just sitting there with her boob hanging out and a baby in her lap. Maybe it implies that she just finished breastfeeding, I don't know. All I know is that a baby is not latched on, hence, she's not breastfeeding.

  15. While I agree that it is a beautiful photo...I also agree that she is NOT breastfeeding! It would have been a much more powerful image of breastfeeding if the baby had actually been latched on! To me this is a photo of implied breastfeeding.
