This is a video I made yesterday to demonstrate a fabulous new-to-me way of wearing the baby in a woven wrap. I love how neat and organized the final look is -- like a cute little package of baby! Another great aspect of this carry is that you can easily adjust the placement of the baby without taking it out of the wrap -- simply untie the ends of the wrap and raise or lower the baby by creating slack or tightening the ends (I find myself utilizing that adjustability aspect for easy breastfeeding on the go!)
Watch, and let me know what you think.
(NOTE: Please excuse the slight cropping of the video on my blog template...I'm a html novice and I couldn't manage to adjust the width of my main column without deleting the right-hand column entirely! To see the best version of the video click through to view it on YouTube and watch full-screen. Meanwhile, let me know if you have any references for a good blog designer, LOL!)

That was very helpful. I am never good with diagrams and this one looks so easy, and as you said, so adjustable with baby on. Love it!
ReplyDeletethe video wouldnt work for me :( but loved the didy wraps. I still dont own one sadly..
ReplyDeletebtw i got a new blog

first words out of my mouth: "oh Leigh that's really slick!" I especially love the burp cloth headrest. It looks really nice and clean.
ReplyDeleteIf only number two were on the way so I could have a little one to wrap up!

I thought it would something you would enjoy reading:)
That is very helpful and he looks so snug and comfy. I wish my little guy (15 months) was still little enough to carry like that.
ReplyDeleteHey Leigh, I love this and think it looks really snug for the baby. What about a baby bjorn? is that the same thing- do you think the wrap is more comfy for the baby? am a total novice at this but not expecting till April, so i have some time!

Leigh - So cute to see you and that beautiful little peanut :) I love the carry you demonstrated. I have the Babyhawk Mei Tai but still haven't seem to get the knack of it...Harper likes to look out to the front so I'm trying to do the side carry, but it's a work in progress :) Are you carrying the big kiddo around still - and if so, how?
ReplyDeleteAwesome hold and gorgeous wrap. What brand is it? I want one!
ReplyDeleteyou make it look so easy! i probably would have somehow managed to nearly hang myself with it or have the baby hanging by one foot, but it looked beautiful! oh how i wish i could rewind so i could carry my peanut like that.

Wow, thanks everyone for the sweet comments! I wanted to address a few of the questions that have been raised, so here goes:
ReplyDeleteMichelle -- Congrats! I didn't realize you are expecting! I'm so happy for you :) You will love being a mom & BABYWEARING!!! So, to answer your question, in this demo I am wearing a woven wrap (Didymos is the brand) which is basically a long piece of fabric that can be tied and wrapped countless ways. Just search "didymos" on YouTube to get a glimpse of the many options! This is my favorite type of carrier that I have tried so far. IT IS NOT THE SAME AS A BJORN. I would actually advise you to stay far far away from the Bjorn, as it is not very comfortable or ergonomic for parent or child. I started out with the Bjorn when I had J, and I hated it. It was not until J was 8 or 9 months and I discovered the Babyhawk Mei Tai that I realized how fun and easy and comfortable babywearing can be. One of the problems with the Bjorn is that the baby's legs dangle straight down, which is bad for their hips, and it also fails to distribute the weight effectively on the parent's body.
April -- I'm so glad that you have a Babyhawk! It can definitely take a little bit of time to get used to a carrier and find the way of wearing it that works best for you and your baby. Since you said that Harper likes to face out, have you thought about trying to wear him in a high position on your back? It's a very comfortable carry for you and he should be able to get a great view, looking over your shoulder. For an easy hip carry you might want to try a ring sling or a pouch type of carrier.
Caitlyn -- The wrap I'm using in the video is a Didymos, in the Aqua Waves color. Here's the website for more info: http://didymos.com/
You are so adorable! We've moved back, so hopefully will see you soon - still trying to get settled, will touch base once the dust clears.
ReplyDeleteOlivia and I loved the video! I can't figure out how you timed everything perfectly with the music! :-)
ReplyDeleteTHanks Leigh, super helpful. Michelle

Loved it! So cute (and helpful:).
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable!!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful mama you are. There is a similar wrap in australia called the hug-a-bub but I never got one. We had a ring sling and an aka pipik www.pipik.com.au and I loved both of those. Before I had Ché I never realised how easy babywearing was, nor how beneficial it was to his development. He's so confident and friendly with most people and I think it's due to the fact that he spent the majority of his first 18months at eye level with everyone else! He wasn't out of the way in a pram. I'm so keen to read about your sakura bloom wraps - on a stylish level they get me very excited! And I love this video...I'll just have to have another bub!
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome! Thanks
ReplyDeleteThe wrap, the music, the editing, the baby, the mama....all perfection!

Charming!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video! I'm going to forward it to my pregnant friend. I wish I could wear my 2 year old like that - I love little snugglebugs! You look fantastic by the way! :-)
ReplyDeleteI smiled all the way through. So soothing and sweet to watch... as if I could be the wrapper and the wrappee. Embraceable me!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the video! When my babies were little I wore them in slings and the ergo carrier. I was not aware of the didymos back then, I wish I did. My friend just showed me her didymos wrap a couple of months ago and I was in love! However, because of you and your idea to put a video together I can give her a couple tips, especially the head rest idea. Thanks a bunch and I love your blog! Did I mention that because of your post with the tree house beds, my kiddos now have their own tree house beds? Yep I loved those! We just have to stain them and put them into their rooms. My father in law built them for us. :o)
ReplyDeleteps. I am going to post your video on my blog too, I have many friends that would benefit from it.
Also, here is the link of the post I did on the tree house beds and my props to you. I will posting about them again soon with the pictures of our new tree house beds!

Nice job Leigh well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to carry the baby! I love how clean it looks. I never thought to make a headrest out of a burb cloth! Thanks for the video. Oh and you look graet for just having a baby!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little package. A friend of mine introduced me to these wraps when my baby's were toddlers :( I so wish I had known about them sooner. She makes her own out of whatever fabric she likes by measuring out 5-6 yards, hemming the ends and voila! Ready to wrap.
ReplyDeletelove the music! reminds me of a woody allen movie.
ReplyDeleteoh, that makes me want another baby!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's my fav wrap at the moment too :D have been doing it for nearly 2 months now... bubba is 3 months old.
