Me, Solo...Plus Two Little Men

My mother flew home to Mississippi yesterday, after a six-week stay in our apartment in NYC. It was a wonderful visit (I'll post more about it soon) and the time flew by. While she was here mom cooked, cleaned, shopped, did our laundry, not to mention all the bouncing of a couple of babies on her knee! We all loved having her in our home and I don't know how I would have made it through the last month without her, so today was a real moment of truth: my first day alone with both kids while Taro was away at work. I admit I have looked forward to this milestone with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.

Well, we got off to a strong, early start by leaving home with Taro when he set off for the office. We went straight to the nearest playground, J in his stroller and W in the Didymos. J went for the sandbox and happily occupied himself there for a couple of hours...
while on a nearby bench W snoozed and nursed in the wrap...
It was a beautiful morning and I enjoyed soaking up the warm sunshine, but I'll admit what with all that sleeping and digging, I got a little bored. So I did a mini photoshoot of my new mani-pedi...
It's a new-to-me color (Hardy Water Lily) and brand, Priti, which is all non-toxic!

Anyhoo, then it was on to the swings where I took a couple of cell-phone self-portraits with the kiddos...
Later, we had a nice lunch and were treated to a surprise visit from our old friend, Donisha, who read a couple of books to us...
This was us moments after Donisha left:
After all that fun, we were toast:)

All in all it was a great day, and I am now confident of my ability to manage on my own when outnumbered by children. Whew!

  3. I've been lurking for a while enjoying all of your posts since finding your blog through pacingthepanicroom. Anyway, my little girl was born at home here in Brooklyn on 8/16, and I have followed closely you adventures in babywearing as I planned for it to be a key part of my return to work. After 3 days on my feet with the Maya Wrap, my shoulders were a mess and I went uptown to MetroMinis to investigate the mei tai wraps (inspired by a post of your a while ago). What a find--can you believe we don't have a store like this in Brooklyn?! I really learned a lot there and I took the subway home with my little one snuggled up in a Napsack Baby wrap. Long story...we found ourselves on a 4 train during rush hour, and when my daughter became restless with 4 stops to go, I became nervous when other passengers started to glare at me; but then I thought of your tales of breastfeeding on the train, and although I haven't done it yet, your stories gave me the confidence and patience to focus on calming my baby regardless of what others may think. So, thanks for sharing--not just the name of a great boutique, but also the trepidation of parenthood and the joy that comes with perseverance. I'm so happy to see it continues with two kiddos!

  8. what a wonderful mama to come out & give you the full 6 weeks. we dropped everything for the first 6 weeks for all three boys - it was a huge risk a couple of times. but we felt like it was more risky to pass over the healing process. you look vital & happy, you're lovies even more so. it's no small feat, getting out there with 2 toddlers. congratulations!!

  9. I will never forget the moment my Mom left after the birth of our second daughter. I cried because I had no idea how I was going to care for both of them on my own. I eventually got into a groove and it sounds like you are off to a wonderful start. Thank you for sharing...

  10. Beautiful pictures. It reminds me my own family when kids were small. It was a wonderful time spent together. It's good to have such memories on pictures. That is exactly what holds family together and furthermore you have something more to be proud of. Enjoy your family!

    Take care,
    Jay

  12. A very special milestone indeed. Looks like you had a wonderful day. And that's exactly how I survive being alone with two. Get out of the house early. Go, go, go. Eat lunch. Crash. Before you know it, it's 4:30 p.m. and help (in the form of Dad) returns not too much later. Best of luck!

  15. That is awesome that it went so smoothly! To me, the idea of a 2-year-old plus a baby makes me want to crawl into a cave because I don't think I could handle it. Major props to rock stars like you! Love the photos... your little baby babe looks so natural at the breast.
