When we went to see Where The Wild Things Are a couple of days ago, I was blown away by a trailer that was shown in advance of the film. The documentary feature, Baby(ies) follows four infants born in different countries (Mongolia, Namibia, Japan, and the U.S.) for the first year of their lives. The images and excerpts shown in the trailer were so arresting and captivating that I ran straight home from the theater and Googled the film. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the trailer online -- and in fact there is very little information on Baby(ies), period -- but I did find these stills from the movie and I wanted to share them here. Reportedly, the movie is in post-production and slated for a 2010 release. I can't wait!

ReplyDeleteWow, wish we had seen that trailer, but we did not! Sounds awesome.
ReplyDeletelooks incredible.
ReplyDeleteThere is still a lot of work to be done to bring the film to america. But it is very beautiful. I am optimistic that Focus will respect the film in it's intended form and not throw some B-movie actor narration over it for the American release, but of course you never know.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people worked very hard on this project, (and opened up their lives in an extraordinary way...) and its very exciting that it is so close to public viewing (the film shot in 06-07.) It's wonderful to see the enthusiasm here! Wish I could say more.
Love your blog, btw
Wow, Anonymous! Thanks for your insights. I would love to know more about the film and your involvement in it...
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm curious to where you found the pictures from the trailer. I actually lived in the Opuwo, Namibia from 2005-2007 and even my license plate here in AZ says Opuwo (which means 'enough, or to stop' in the local language of Otjieherero).
ReplyDeleteI was in such shock when I saw that trailer today! I've been talking to friends back there to find out who was filming and such because it is a very small town and everyone knows everything and I wonder if I met the crew at one point.
Thanks for posting this as not a lot of info is out about it at this point :) you can verify I'm the real deal at my website coppeliasview.com
Cheers!

Wow! I'm not exactly a movie lover, but this seems so interesting I want to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteI recognize the mom/child of the first picture. Aren't they featured in the book Babies Celebrated?
I want to see this! So much!
ReplyDeleteLet us know if you are able to hunt down a movie trailer or more information. :)

Thanks for sharing this - I lived in Opuwo last year (2008) and never heard a thing about this being filmed anywhere in that area. So I was pretty surprised to hear about this film. I'm extreamly excited for this! :)
