I Brought My Breasts, They Had the Rest

Today my mom, W and I visited one of my favorite shops in the world, The Upper Breast Side. I was overdue for a bra fitting and a couple of new nursing bras -- turns out that breastfeeding a toddler and a newborn has caused my once b-cupped boobs to go into overdrive and (not to put too fine a point on it) in the last few weeks I have been having trouble stuffing them into my old nursing bras and tanks.

Once the skilled and delightful sales woman had assessed the situation, we learned that I am now sporting 34G's. That's right, I said "G", as in "gigantic."

So, needless to say, I needed a new boob wardrobe. Over the course of an hour or so the staff helped me to select the best bras for me, and I left feeling much better and a million times more supported.

I love that store! Although it is just a tiny, two-room space, it is truly one of the most unique and wonderful boutiques I have ever frequented, with an amazing staff that is so helpful with all things lactation-related. If you live in New York, or plan to visit, and you have babies and boobs, you must visit The Upper Breast Side. Read a great article about the store and its charismatic owner, here.

  1. You're very lucky to have a shop like that. None of the shops around here (2 miles past the haystacks, take a left at the cows) has anything larger than a D in nursing bras. And when you need a 32 DDD, it's the underwires in Macy's for you my friend.

  3. Wow, that's a serious size.
I just purchased a new nursing bra, and they do wonders for your back and ego. I wish I had known about this store when I still lived in NY.

  6. Oh, I sympathize. As someone who is a D-cup to start with, my boobs become GINORMOUS when I'm nursing a newborn. I seriously did not know they made bras in the kind of sizes I had to buy after Kate was born. But it's totally worth shelling out whatever money you have to to get some support. That store sounds awesome. I suffered through some seriously lame nursing bras at first.

  7. I read this post out loud to my husband last night and he did a dance of joy. I've already gone from small C to big D and am due in just a couple of weeks ;)

  9. A G!! Wow, you are a lactating Goddess! I went from the low end of a B to the high end of a...B! Yes, not much change in the boob area (I was a little disappointed at my bra fitting!), which is ironic because I used to be obsessed with having bigger breasts as a pre-teen, chest exercises and all (Judy Blume's "We must, we must, we must increase our bust...") and, admittedly juvenile, I was kind of looking forward to having huge breasts during and after the pregnancy, just to see what that felt like. Oh well, I'll live vicariously through your Gs. G Money, that's my new name for you! Although not as clever as Riki's G Whiz, LOL!

  10. Ha! I didn't know G's existed until I got pregnant with Levi. Boy did I get a wake up call. And, once he made his entrance and so too did the milk...oh. my....I certainly found out about G's and beyond! Glad you found a great bra store. There's just nothing better for a busty mama!

  11. Gs!?! Geez! Ha, bad joke. But seriously, I'm going in for a doc's appt on Friday and am going to hit up this place or that new one on the UES to get measured. Kind of dreading it, actually, but I realize that the real shocker is still to come AFTER I have this baby!
