"It is the nature of the child to be dependent, and it is the nature of dependence to be outgrown. Begrudging dependency because it is not independence is like begrudging winter because it is not yet spring. Dependency blossoms into independence in its own time."--Peggy O'Mara, Editor, Mothering Magazine.

ReplyDeleteI needed to read that quote today! My two-year old couldn't be more attached to me unless I sewed him to me. Some days, I must admit, it can take it's toll, mainly I love it and feel lucky to have this fleeting bond with him. Wonderful quote - thanks for posting!
ReplyDeletePerfection!
ReplyDeletei truly believe that a child who spends a lot of his/her first year(s) in a sling becomes so confident and independent. Because they have spent so much time at adult level, constantly conversing with the people around them as opposed to being stuck (down there) in a pram. Beautiful quote
ReplyDeletei so love all the images of children in slings. i have 7 and a half month old twin boys. my husband and i have taken turns "wearing" them when we are out and about, but honestly it is i who spends the most time with them in the day - i can not wear them both at the same time - they are both over 7 kilos now plus i have a bad back. when i see all the lovely baby wearing images sometimes i feel guilty that i can't.........
ReplyDeletefor this twins are hard but a blessing in so many other ways.
oh i'm saving this too. so right on! thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeletebeautiful and appropriate. out walking with my little (10 KILO) "almost toddler" today in the Ergo Carrier. A few odd stares from strangers here and there..and guess what I wanted to say, "psst I am still breastfeeding too!" Naughty me. She will be in college before I know it...and I will miss this time so.
