Photo of the Day

I stumbled upon this image on WeHeartIt a few days ago and it absolutely stopped me in my tracks.

The scar that is depicted is the result of surgery that was done to correct the way this mother's c-sections healed internally.  The photo was taken by her husband (you can explore his photostream here).

I wince looking at that painful wound, and yet I am so moved by the tenderness of the little girl, and the beautiful connection between mother and child.  What an amazing testament to motherly love and the courageous lengths that we all go to to bring our babies into the world (no matter how they arrive).

  2. Yikes! That is quite a scar. But, such a beautiful photo. It truly is amazing what we will go through to get our little ones here.

  3. Wow! I seriously feel a sting by my scar. sometimes, its not what we planned (it wasn't for me), but in a moment you are following another one (plan that is...)

beautiful that her daughter only sees and loves her pretty mama!

  5. Wow, now this really did move me. I see my Mom's scar from time to time, and every time I catch a glimpse it reminds me of what she did for me.

  7. Silly me, I'm crying. Thanks Leigh. *sigh* those kiddos make every sacrifice worth it, big and small.

  9. Thank you, thank you for not remarking on negatively on c-sections. After I read the first few sentences, I braced myself for the remarks that typically follow. But thank you, for recognizing that sometimes, c-sections aren't a choice, they are necessity and they are a valid way to birth a child. I am so disappointed that I never gave birth vaginally, but a combination of circumstances made that not possible--even though I did try. Thank you for acknowledging the validity of a c-section.
