Inauguration

Official, Limited Edition Inaugural Poster, designed by Shepard Fairey.  Available here.

Back in November, I posted about deciding to go to DC for Obama's Inauguration.  Well, I can't believe the time is here already!  We leave for DC tomorrow evening (we're taking Amtrak) and will return on Wednesday.

I'm sure we're in for quite and adventure, especially since I'm now not only planning to be at this event with a toddler, but I'm knocked up, to boot ;)

T's mother, Riki, has graciously (and probably very wisely!) decided to stay at her house with the Kiddo while we traipse around in the cold trying to see something historic with our own eyeballs.  Depending on my level of nausea/tiredness on Tuesday I might end up deciding to stay home as well, but at this point I intend to be strong and summon all my fortitude for OBAMA!

I haven't had the kind of week that lent itself to finding all sorts of juicy links for your weekend -- too much time has been spent napping -- but I did run across this beautiful and moving letter written by Barack Obama to his daughters that I thought would be the perfect note to leave you on as I head to Washington to see him become the 44th President of the United States.   I urge you to read it, and let me know what you think:

  2. I'm sure the letter to Malia and Sasha is the hope of parents the world over for their children. I know it was my hope for my three wonderful children.

I hope you have a very safe, warm and inspiring few days in D.C. I wish I could be there with you but since I can't, I look forward to hearing all about it. Be sure and wave if you see a camera. I'll be watching & warm.

  3. What a beautiful letter to his girls. Still feels a little surreal to me that such a fine man as Barack Obama will actually be our President in 3 days!!

I'm beyond excited ... and can't wait to have you all here for this life-changing time in our nation and the world.

I can guarantee the Kiddo & I will be watching lots o' TV from the comfort & warmth of my uncrowded living room!!

  12. How exciting for you and your family to be able to witness that historic event! Be sure to rest up as needed (the first trimester can be so exhausting)...and I hope you take lots of photos. You are quite the photographer!

P.S. Thanks for sharing that letter from Obama to his daughters. I skimmed it...and bookmarked it so I can read the whole thing later when I have more time.
