Kelly Rutherford, best known for playing Lily van der Woodsen in the CW teen drama Gossip Girl, is quoted in the December 29 issue of US magazine talking about breastfeeding her toddler while being pregnant with her second child. "It's an amazing bond with your child....Some cultures do it up to five years, normally. I thought, 'Well, I'll just do it as long as it feels right for my son.'...I was thinner after my pregnancy than before, and I think a lot of it was the nursing. They say it helps your body get back to shape in a natural way."
Hooray for Kelly! I love seeing comments like this in such mainstream publications.

Very cool! Tu Leigh for your kind thoughts...
ReplyDeleteConsidering all the vanity in our culture I really can't believe more women don't breastfeed strictly for the weight loss. I think they would soon find there are other more fabulous reasons for nursing (especially extended nursing), but the weight loss is certainly a good perk.
ReplyDeleteGo Kelly go! I'm so glad you report on these celebs because I never hear about this good stuff!

Hey! Non-breastfeeding related comment here, but I wanted to follow up: We're getting into Jackson at 4:40 on the 27th. I imagine y'all are leaving earlier in the day. We have to start coordinating our trips. I think I missed you by one week back in July. The Kiddo and Kate are never going to be able to meet and fall in love and get married if we don't get our acts together!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I like seeing that sort of thing in mainstream media too.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! And I agree with Madeline...one would think more women in the US would nurse longer just for the weight loss benefit!
ReplyDeleteHow do you find these excellent articles? I love hearing about celebrities who are committed to breastfeeding.
