Thoughts on Attending Inauguration

Lately, I've become a little obsessed with the idea of going to DC to see Barack Obama take the Oath of Office.  I'm still on a high from the election, and I just can't stop thinking about how historic a moment his Inauguration will be, and how amazing it would be to say that I was there witnessing it with my little family.  Yesterday, I was talking to my friend Liz, and we both got really fired up about the idea and decided to do it.  Now, I'm more excited than ever, but I'm also pretty sure that I'm out of my mind.  Not for wanting to go, but for thinking that the logistics of going will be manageable, what with taking the Kiddo, and it being in the middle of January, and everyone else on the planet probably converging there at the same time.  Which brings me to my first ever Marvelous Kiddo Poll, where you can weigh in on my level of Inauguration-related sanity:

  1. I live in Northern VA and work and go to school in DC, so there's been a ton of discussion around here. Most area school districts are closing for the day, and the parade planners have decided to remove an entire section of bleachers to make more room for standing spectators. All that aside, there are something like 234,000 tickets to the inaugeration, and the word is most of them have been spoken for for the last year or more (they're free, but you have to contact your local congressman to get them).

The whole ticket issue aside, it's going to be INSANE. A lot of people I know are putting up friends and relatives for the event, and absolutely every single DC hotel room is spoken for at this point. You could stay in the metro area, No. VA or So. MD and Metro in, but word is the Metro will be unmanageable.

I admire your determination, but personally, I'll be at home watching the proceedings on TV!

  2. Maybe I'll see you there! ;)

Tickets or not, I'll be crashing on a friend's couch near the Capitol and I am crazy excited (and maybe just plain crazy) to be there :)

  4. If I had transportation I would likely be considering it. I'm only a few hours south of DC. I stood in the snow and wind with my 2 kids for hours to see Obama last month, which was a PITA but totally worth it. I say go for it!

  5. I entered the NY lottery for tickets. i might just pass out if I get them. in which case, you could snag them from my unconscious hand.
is it crazy to think I might actually win out of only 350 up for grabs? i mean someone has to, right?

  6. My twin sister lives in DC and I might go out there to go with her if she can score us tickets. I think it would be amazing.
